So I’ve been marathoning HGTV lately (which I do from time to time) and now I’m obsessed with the idea of buying my own home. I’ve already got an account that I’ve been putting money in that is earmarked for a new home. But really all this HGTV has made me want to get a fixer upper and to make it mine. And these thoughts have led to DIY thoughts in general.
I discovered Knock Off Wood, a website where the lovely Ana takes furniture from popular stores like West Elm and Pottery Barn and creates plans so you can make your own knock offs. Super cool. I’m normally against knock offs, but mainly corporate ones. I love the idea of seeing something you love and making it yourself. Awesomeness.
Most of the designs are for furniture that really isn’t my style. I’m more of a mid-century modern kinda girl. But I saw she made the plans for the West Elm Parsons desk, which is a desk I’ve always admired. One day I hope to make this desk (living in an apartment complex makes furniture building unlikely) perhaps I’ll schedule a vacation to the parents house and have dad show me how to work the tools.
I’m also looking into a woodworking class at a local adult high school to learn me some skills.
